Open letter to General Omar Soleiman, former head of intelligence, appointed VP of Egypt by Mubarak since 28/1/2011. (8.February 2011)

My dear FRIEND General Omar Soleiman,

I allow myself to address you as my friend today, neither out of disrespect, nor because I want to give the impression that we actually know each other. Make no mistake, I really mean no disrespect (I'm not THAT stupid) and I have never actually had the pleasure. I choose to address you as such today, because I have the very strong feeling that you want to convince me that you are MY FRIEND. So, as friends do, I will spill my guts out to you, and like I have been forced to listen to you those last 10 days, I hope you will find it in you to listen to me for a change for the next 15 minutes.

I will not make any assumptions based on what I heard about you, nor will I label you according to what I read are your past accomplishments. This might be to your disadvantage, as you seem to have convinced many people through your record of achievements that you are a decent human being, or to your advantage, as many people see you as the mastermind of Egypt's security over the last decade(s), and therefore see in you a bigger threat than our present dictator. So, as friends do, I will judge you ONLY based on your behaviour since we "became" friends. Fair enough?

Our friendship started with the picture of you making an oath and swearing loyalty to a man who has been my ennemy for 30 years. I saw you reading out of a folded piece of paper, then stepping forward, head lowered in awe, humbly shaking the hand of what looked to me like your boss. So let's agree that it is safe to assume that you work for my ennemy.

Our friendship continued with your first speech to me personally, where you promised to take care of me. You looked me straight in the eyes and said that you will protect me. You had such a sincere calm tone that I was hypnotized into belief. The next day I died in front of your very eyes, and you were nowhere around to even try to catch me as I was falling. This can only mean that either you can't or do not want to protect me. As I cannot imagine a friend lying to me, let us agree that it is safe to assume that you cannot protect me.

After that, dear friend, you spoke to me again and assured me that you had listened to my demands and that you are already working on making sure they are fulfilled. Again your deep reassuring firm tone convinced me that you would deliver beyond the shadow of a doubt. Ten days later I am reviewing my list of demands, and out of 7 demands you have actually delivered ZERO. Wait let me rub my eyes and check again. Yes ZERO. Of course I cannot deny seeing you talking to important people and giving important interviews nor can I lie and pretend like you didn't do anything. So you are doing "stuff" and issuing orders and forming committees and talking to people, BUT you are not doing any of the things I demanded. Since I do not dare be as disrespectful as to imagine that you didn't understand what I demanded, I must conclude that I didn't express myself properly. In both cases let's agree that is safe to assume we (YOU and me) have a serious communication problem.

The last couple of days, dear Friend, I see you talking to people day in day out, who claim they are negotiating on my behalf. You sit at a nice big round table and look like you're discussing something important. Then, you and them come out and make statements about results, which seem to make you all happy and hopeful that we are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I listen in complete disbelief, as you claim you have reached an agreement with your friends about my future. Funny, but what you say afterwards has nothing to do with my future, because friends do not impose anything on each other. And although some keep saying I do not know what I want, I can swear to you that I have no uncertainty about what I DON'T WANT. So let's agree that it is safe to assume that we both do not want the same thing.

Finally i hear you making plans about our friendship which you seem to think will last forever, although i insist on not making vows I cannot keep. Loyalty is a two way street and although you may feel that I must sign in with my blood, all I'm asking is to show me some trust. Yet I watch your TV and read your newspapers and I cannot find in any of them any bridges to build that trust. Like lovers or friends do, I think "we need to talk" my friend. You see, I am not like you. I am frail and I am sensitive. I get hurt when someone accuses me of being a traitor. I get hurt when someone calls me a fool. I get hurt when someone claims I am lost and can be driven by anybody. I get hurt when someone looks down on me. And I also get hurt when that same someone tries to insult my intelligence by suddenly calling me a hero. I am none of these things and I demand that you call me by my name. My name is on the cover of my passport. My name is EGYPTIAN and I'm beginning to realize that it is safe to assume you do not really know me.

Because of all the above Mr General, I am hereby asking you to review our friendship and tell me what YOU think I should do. I do not resign my friendships easily nor do I give up on friends when we disagree. BUT if all the above doesn't clearly show me that something is wrong between the both of us, then maybe I do DESERVE to be your friend.

With all due respect
Egyptian

What do these kids want? (6.February 2011)

Dear Naguib Sawiris and Ahmed Zuweil, and all other distinguished members of the so-called "council of wisdom", and honourable members of Egyptian opposition parties, and speakers of the Moslem Brotherhood, and whoever else you are out there trying to resolve this crisis: COULD YOU PLEASE STOP NEGOTIATING ON OUR BEHALF! Yes you heard me. Stop negotiating. Who told you that our brothers and sisters died trying to negotiate? Who told you that 8 million of us hit the streets in one day just to gain leverage for better terms?

We surely respect that you have shown in your professional careers the ability to make the best of situations. And we admire you for it. But this here is not a DEAL. You are missing the point. There is nothing to negotiate and de facto there is noone to negotiate with. With the first hours of that beautiful tuesday morning 11 days ago this regime lost all legitimacy. The people did not show their dismay or disapproval. They declared their INDEPENDANCE. When millions echo in one voice all over the country "the people want to topple the regime" (El sha3b yurid eskat elnezam) you should all have listened more attentively. The message is clear and the words are simple and perfectly self- explanatory. It's called a REVOLUTION.

WE (the people) do not want THEM (the regime). That means we sure as hell do not want the head of state, but it also means we do not want anyone appointed by this head of state, any of his ministers, any of his ruling party officials or even members. We do not trust anyone remotely associated with this now illegitimate regime and we have decided their time is up. So please tell me: who are you negotiating WITH?

We thought you wanted to be our voice and welcomed you amongst us. We thought you would transfer our message to those who apparently were in a coma during all those hours where we were chanting clear and loud. We thought you would carry our voice and speak out our will strongly and clearly with the conviction of millions of men and women behind you. We thought you would explain it to all those who are asking "What do these kids want?" (El 3eyal dul 3ayzin eh?) or those who repeat without interruption "El resala weslet" (the message has been delivered). We were even hoping you would take over for us and manage this transition for all of us until we elect our new government. We trusted you with this gigantic task because we thought you are up to this great responsibility.

Instead you lured us first into dialogues and tried to win our trust and then went on to form councils and hold TV appearences and give interviews. You started speaking of half way solutions. You sat down and held meetings with the new Vice President and other members and figures of the regime. All of a sudden we saw some of you stating that we have achieved what this revolution set out to achieve. We were robbed of our belief in you when we heard you utter the very words we hear from our beloved illegitimate former government. Suddenly we realized you are out to achieve a personal or public success completely focused on just one thing: emptying the Tahrir Square.

You are mistaken gentlemen, we do not want you to formulate our demands because they are clear as sunshine. And contrary to you, we are not going to make deals with the devil. We are not going to be "reasonable" as you put it because all our deals with the devil have gone bad in the past. We know the story of the boy who cried wolf by heart gentlemen. You're used to different outcomes. You have your companies and your reputation  and your global and national awards decorating your cv and your bank account and your circle of acquaintances. You have managed through diplomacy or cunning shrewdness to always maintain your interests while remaining neutral. But this is a whole different ball game Sirs because we have nothing to maintain.

Once these contracts are signed you will be honourly discharged at best (or worst), but we will get slaughtered. Your mission will have failed, but we will have died in vain. You will not be able to add this round to your brilliant record of successes, but we will be hanging in basements operated by the secret police. Your guarantees are not worth a penny because you do not know what it means to be stripped down to the bones and tortured. Your promises don't mean anything because this regime has never raped your mother or your sister in front of your very eyes to get a fabricated confession out of you. Your assurances make absolutely no sense because you gentlemen do not know what it means to litteraly have to run for your life without having committed any crimes.

So if you really want to do us a favour and if you want to have a real role in our nation's revolution, tell your negotiating partner Mr Omar Soleiman, the former head of INTELLIGENCE that we definitely don't want him because he is the last person we could trust with our lifes should we retreat from our stronghold. We hear his threats and watch his TV and we are not stupid. Explain to them that they should stop saying "the message was delivered" (el resala weslet) because this is obviously not the case. If it were, our brothers would not be followed around by secret police as soon as they leave Tahrir Square. If it were, our martyrs would still be alive. If it were, their national TV would be openly and publicly apologizing to the NATION FOR ALL THEIR LIES. If it were, then we would be seeing people willing to serve us and not desperately trying to continue ruling us. If it were, we would not be receiving threat mails and calls assuring us that we are within arm's reach should we not stop our incitement.

The people want to topple the regime. This is what "those kids" want. And we don't make deals with the devil gentlemen, so please stop negotiating the terms!

Today I will not lead any discussions with people who want this revolution to stop. (5.February 2011)

Today I do not want to hear about the price this has on the economy because any 12 years old child will tell you that if i'm loosing 10 dollars a day anyway, loosing one extra dollar for one month to eventually stop the 10 dollars loss per day is a GOOD DEAL. The economy is suffering because it is built on ridiculous policies not gearing our efforts as a nation to produce anything nor to teach our work force to be able to produce anything. This is what our economy is suffering from and not the revolution.

Today I do not want to hear about foreign agendas or who is trying to ride what wave or about the Ekhwan taking over because the more patriotic Egyptians take part in the revolution the more we will all make those evil forces smaller in influence and percentage. Simple math: if 1000 are in Tahrir and 300 are Ekhwan that's 30%. Now if the 700 who are not Ekhwan go home than the remaining 300 are 100% Ekhwan. But if 3000 others come who are not Ekhwan than the Ekhwan are only 10%. You tell me what's better.

Today I do not want to hear about "we got almost all what we want" because it's simply bullshit. We are only getting piece by piece and until today we have not gotten REAL CONCESSIONS! We have a president who said "i wasn't intending on running for president" and "i will tell the parliament to DISCUSS 76 and 77" and who didn't say a word about judiciary supervision of any future elections (88) or lifting the emergency state and who appointed people who are loyal to him into a new government. We have a new government who is still not doing anything to protect the people and who is still acting like we are imbeciles by pretending to be listening to demands of freedom and dignity while their state TV is still spewing the same propaganda we have been used to over the last 30 years. We have a new General on the front who says he will restore order but doesn't, who says he will protect the people but doesn't, who says the demonstrators have to go home first and THEN we will do what they want AS IF HE'S TRYING TO TAKE A TOY FROM A CHILD'S HANDS BY OFFERING HIM CHOCOLATE!

Today I do not want to hear about silly arguments about the constitution and how it is better he should stay in office because of this or that article and that should he leave now the Vice President will not have the necessary legitimacy to change the constitution or dissolve the parliament because doing these two things take one word: "I hereby order to delete articles so and so, and I hereby dissolve the parliament". Does he need 9 months to speak out those dozen or so words? Really? And EVEN IF I misunderstand the articles and the constitution really does make it impossible to have the changes we want should he leave, then we shall change the constitution, THIS IS A REVOLUTION, and revolutions change whatever stands in their way.

Today I do not want to hear about majority / minority issues suggesting that more people are for Mubarak or that those people in Tahrir square do not represent us all because as far I can remember until 10 days ago 99% of this population were constantly complaining about an increasingly horrible situation which affects us all. Those who have were insecure, those who don't have were dying to have. Corruption is in every single bracket of society and education and health services are not worthy of animals. So if you are Pro-Mubarak all of a sudden than we should probably not be communicating in the first place because according to my memory you do not even exist!

Today I do not want to hear about "Papa Mubarak" or him being a symbol and that we should not put our symbols down is simply the biggest crap i have ever heard in my entire life. As you can judge by my name and my bank account (!)  he is NOT my dad, never was and never will be. My father is a respectable human being who never took something that doesn't belong to him nor did he ever inflict any harm on any human beings. And if you want to tell me we should judge fairly and that everyone has some good and some bad then i'll tell you i don't give a damn about how many BMW's roam the streets or how we all have mobile phones because it's not like he bought them for us in the first place, or not like we have become human beings just because we have managed not to receed into a population that uses camels as a mode of transportation and sends smoke signals for communication. Those are NOT ACHIEVEMENTS my friends. And bridges are great but I don't mind walking on the ground.

Finally today i do not want to hear this nonsense about our image abroad and how much better it would be for our image abroad if he should end his term in office and then leave because I can tell you first-hand that we have never ever before been so admired and so respected throughout the whole world as we are now because of this peaceful civil and extremely honourable revolution. I have never been more proud to be Egyptian and I have never been encountered with so many words of encouragement and admiration as in these last 10 days, and I've been an Egyptian for a while now, so please take my word for it.

So my dear friends if you want an end to the chaos and to the misery as you are experiencing it then put pressure on YOUR government to go find it's police force and make them wear their uniforms again and restore order and to stop paying baltageya to go on so-called Pro-Muabarak demonstrations and kill and rampage and spread horror and to finally admit that this revolution has nothing to do with this intentional chaos they are trying to punish us with, because THIS REVOLUTION IS NOT GOING TO STOP UNTIL THIS REGIME LETS GO OF ITS POWER AND LEAVES! Period. Out. End of story.

Peace and love to all and glory to EGYPT!

What happened to you EDUCATED Egyptians? (3.February 2011)

What happened to you EDUCATED Egyptians?

Where did this sudden LOVE FOR MUBARAK come from?

Aren't you one of the millions who have been suffering from the corruption, the lack of security, the lack of perspective which HE and his regime have brought us into? Aren't you one of the millions who never ever stopped complaining about HIM personally wishing he would go? Be honest!

Now, did he manage with this one speech to manipulate you emotionally to the point that you became completely "apathetic" to OUR COMMON FREEDOM and completely TOUCHED by his personal IMAGE? People crying NO we can't treat him like this!? Pathetic! What the hell did he give for YOUR IMAGE? Do you not travel abroad? And when you do don't you see the effect that green passport has on any customs officer in the whole world? Do you not realize that the world sees Egypt as a nation with HISTORY but no present or future? What about your image when you have been forced from one place to the other to get papers done? What about your pride and dignity when your fellow citizens were brutally captured and tortured because the police officer just FELT LIKE IT? Where was this feeling of pride and dignity when you were confronted with one international humiliation after the other? Where was this pride when you realized that the whole world lost respect for us politically because our government is paid by the hour by the US government because of our Pro-Israel politics? Stop this hypocrisy! You know damn well this is our politics! Forget the bullshit statements by him or his clown foreign minister about the Palestinian cause! We are paid by the hour and you know it!!!!

And now after this speech you are seriously contemplating trusting and believing him AGAIN? Don't you see what they are broadcasting on TV? Don't you realize that within a couple of weeks "LA TATANA7A" demonstrations will be hitting the streets? ARE YOU REALLY THAT NAIV TO BELIEVE HIS EMPTY PROMISES? What promises did he actually make? That he wasn't even "intending" on running for presidency in the first place? Yea? You believe that? That he will ask the parliament to "discuss 76 and 77"? To "discuss"? Did he say anything about taking away the state of emergency which allows for the implementation of the "Taware2 Law"? Did he say anything about dissolving his barbaric party the NDP? Did you hear anything about his son not running in the upcoming elections? Did you hear anything about dissolving the parliament? NO? Just some blabbering about evil forces who infiltrated the brave demonstrations and not even giving respect to the fallen heros and then some "reforms" bla bla and "to3un" bla bla and "legal back and forth" bla bla. What the hell did he promise that makes you so happy Mr and Mrs PHD??????

And finally this complete absurdity of saying "what next" like you were never educated to begin with? What next? Future is next! Opportunity is next! What the hell are you so scared of? Yes you? Are you truely scared of this so-called vaccum? What vaccum? Get serious! There is no greater vaccum than the one we've been living in the last 3 decades. What you're really scared of is the security vaccum! Admit it! He blackmailed you into thinking his person is equal to safety because as soon as we spoke against him he sent his dogs after us! There is a huge difference between being pressured and being fooled. So worry about what he might do, but do not bullshit yourself or others by what WE might not be able to do! Wake up from this comic lie. We will manage. There are first and second and third in lines who will assume their responsabilities with us as a CONTROLLER. We the people will make sure that things happen the way they are supposed to until elections are held. Don't ask this naiv question about who comes next either! Stop being so Goddamn simplistic. The one we will elect will rule. Whether it's Baradei, or Moussa, or Zuweil, or whomever i don't care. The one we will elect will rule. Didn't you travel and see how that works? Or do you only travel to shop and take pictures?

And all these horror scenarios about Moslem Brotherhood and Iran and Iraq ar just a big joke! If you are so worried about them taking over than get out there and fill the void. If you don't want them to take over than strengthen the non-religious political forces right now on the streets. You repeat like a parrot they are everywhere they are so well organised "Oh my God" as if it was a plague. Those people are mislead and lost just like you. I'm not talking about their leadership i'm talking about their followers. So let's get out there you lazy Sirs and Mams and do our parts. Let's take part in some real social work. Let's support a family. Let's educate their kids. Let's have a counter influence by showing the poor uneducated that we are also there for them. Leaving the scene is a sure way of having them take over! But if you hit the street and tip the balance than they have no chance. I'm sickened by this cowarldly attitude especially now that those HEROES have shown us what's possible. When a guy in the demonstrations put up a Koran they forced him to put it down. Moslems and Christians together have been there on the grounds, Sure many Christians are even more scared than Moslems (understandable) but for God's sake this is our COMMON CHANCE! I really wonder about this "overly careful" (not to say "cowarldly") attitude of some of you my dear Christian friends. Sorry if I address you like that and some idiots will tell me i'm fueling discrimination or separation. To hell with that. I want to speak it out like it is, if you don't like it call me names all you want. Dear Egyptian Christians many of you are hitting the streets and are right there in the front lines risking their lives like their fellow moslem Egyptians, not worrying about our differences but concentrating on our similarities and our common dream. But allow me to say also a great majority are LAYING LOW as if this doesn't concern them. I'm not generalizing and i realize that it might be the same amongst Moslems but you have much more to win in this unique opportunity my friends. You have it in your hands to help tip the balance also right now. Waiting and hiding is actually an admission that this is not your country. Let's wait and see what THEY will do! Come on! Do your ancestors honor. I'm not calling for you to fight on the streets if you don't want but at least show your support and get out of hiding. You know who you are!

And now finally I ask you all that should you decide to disregard all the above then at least know that you are betraying your fighters. Our HEROES are fighting for your and my freedom right now. As long as they are i will take no part in any discussions nor will i respect anyone calling for retreat or BOYCOTT of the demonstrations. I will support the revolutionary fighters 100%, especially since they are being fought physically by bullets and virtually by lies and propaganda! If those HEROES decide to go home, so be it, but until they do I don't wanna hear ONE WORD OF WISDOM about retreat because that would mean TREASON TO THEM!
